Description

Description: This FlowCytomix Simplex Kit is designed for the measurement of Mouse IFN-alpha in an immunoassay analyzed on a flow cytometer. Together with the FlowCytomix Mouse Basic Kit (cat. BMS8440FF), this kit can be used to detect IFN-alpha alone or can be multiplexed with other Simplex Kits to measure a variety of analytes.

This kit contains bead population B10.

The interferons represent proteins with antiviral activity secreted from cells in response to a variety of stimuli. The interferons exhibit a huge number of biological effects that play major roles in both innate and adaptive immunity. The antiproliferative and antitumor activities of interferon have led to the application as an antitumor agent. Additionally, the protein has been shown to sensitize lymphocytes to undergo apoptosis and enhance the proliferation and differentiation of CD8 T-cells. Alterations in surface antigens may be an important mechanism by which interferon can modulate cellular interactions.

In mammals, class I interferon (IFN) genes form a superfamily consisting of three gene families, the alpha interferon (IFN-alpha), the beta interferon (IFN-beta) and the interferon omega (IFN-omega) genes. Mouse and human genomes carry more than a dozen genes coding for closely related alpha interferon subtypes. Most IFN subtypes and limitin, are thought to bind the same receptor, raising the question of whether different IFN subtypes possess specific functions. There are 14 IFN-alpha subtypes in the mouse which share at least 75% identity in protein sequence. The genes coding for all known interferons alpha/beta have been located to murine chromosome 4.
