Description

Description: The human IL-7 Instant ELISA is an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative detection of human Interleukin-7. The human IL-7 Instant ELISA is for research use only. Not for diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.

Interleukin-7 is a pleiotropic cytokine with a variety of activities. It was first described as a growth factor expressed by stromal cells supporting the proliferation of precursor B-lymphocytes. IL-7 is furthermore produced by kidney and liver cells and keratinocytes exerting its bioactivities on spleen, thymus, B-, T-, NK-, and myeloid cells.

The gene for human IL-7 encodes for a protein comprising 152 amino acid residues. IL-7 interacts with its target cells via binding to specific cell surface receptors. There are three classes of IL-7 receptors described, exhibiting low, intermediate and high-binding affinity for IL-7.

Apart from B-cell proliferation IL-7 is involved in T-cell development in the thymus through thymocytes proliferation. IL-7 supports differentiation of cytotoxic T-lymphocytes and promotes the generation of lymphokine-activated killer-cells. IL-7 is further responsible for the upregulation of the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and the stimulation of the tumoricidal activity of monocytes/macrophages.
