Description

Mouse interleukin-13 (IL-13), originally designated p600, is a 11.6 kDa protein secreted by activated T helper cells, CD8+ T cells, and NK cells. IL-13 was originally identified in 1989 through differential hybridization of cDNA libraries prepared from T helper 1 and T helper 2 cells. IL-13 contains four cysteine residues, which form two intramolecular disulfide bonds. IL-13 shares many activities with IL-4; this relates to a requirement for IL-4Rα chain for signal transduction. The biological activities of IL-13 include suppression of macrophage cytotoxic activity, upregulation of IL-1RA expression, and suppression of inflammatory cytokine expression. IL-13 induces CD23 expression on B cells and enhances CD72, and expression of class II MHC gene products. Mouse IL-13 does not display the activities on T cells and B cell stimulatory effects which IL-4 exhibits. Mouse IL-13 is active on human and mouse cells.

Applications Reported

For research use only, not for diagnostic or therapeutic use. Recombinant mouse IL-13 is biologically active. The intended use of the Recombinant Mouse IL-13 Single-Use ELISA RSG Standard is as a standard for mouse IL-13 Ready-SET-Go! ELISA and mouse IL-13 matched antibody pair ELISA. Typically the standard is run in a series of 7 doubling dilutions from the ‘top’ standard described below.

Instructions for use:
For Ready-SET-Go! ELISA Set (TMB substrate). Dilution: Add 5 ul of standard solution to 10 ml of assay diluent to prepare the top standard solution (500 pg/ml).
For matched antibody pair ELISA (ABTS or Super AquaBlue substrate). Dilution: Add 10 ul of standard solution to 10 ml of assay diluent to prepare the top standard solution (1000 pg/ml).

Note: These are single-use vials. Use one time and discard. Dilute as suggested above, not difficult-to-measure fractions of the suggested volumes (e.g., not 0.5 ul in 1.0 ml) or recovery may not be accurate. Use within 6 hours of dilution to top standard concentration.

Applications Tested

This cytokine standard has been calibrated, and subsequently tested by sandwich ELISA using the mouse IL-13 ELISA pair (eBio13A/eBio1316H).
