Product Information

Contents: Carrier-Free Recombinant Human IL-15 (Interleukin-15)
Catalog Number: 34-8159
Sizes: 100 ug, 500 ug
Formulation: Sterile liquid; phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.2, 150 mM NaCl, with no carriers or stabilizers. 0.22 µm filtered.
Storage Conditions: For greatest stability, keep concentration of primary stock at or above 10 µg/ml. For long term storage, aliquot into polypropylene vials (volumes of 20 µl or greater) and store at or below -80°C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Handling Conditions: For best recovery, always quick-spin vial prior to opening. For dilution of current stock, always include carrier protein (1% BSA or 10% FBS) in the buffered saline diluent.
Source: E. coli expressed amino acids asn 23-ser 136 of mature human IL-15 (accession # U14407).
Molecular Mass: The protein does not contain an N-terminal methionine. The polypeptide has a predicted molecular mass of 12,774. The DTT reduced protein migrates as an 11 kDa polypeptide. The nonreduced protein migrates as an 11 kDa protein on non-reducing SDS-PAGE.
Purity: Greater than 98%, as determined by SDS-PAGE
Endotoxin Level: Less than 0.01 ng/ug cytokine as determined by the LAL assay.
Bioactivity: Measured by mouse CTLL2 cell proliferation assay. The ED50 is 0.10 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of 1.0 x 107 Units/mg.

Description

Human IL-15 is a ~15 kDa factor with its mRNA found in a wide variety of cells including peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC), placenta, skeletal muscle, kidney, lung, liver and heart. It is produced most abundantly by epithelial cells and monocytes. IL-15 shares many biological properties with IL-2 including stimulation of CTLL proliferation, and in vitro generation of alloantigen-specific cytotoxic T cells and non-antigen specific lymphokine activated killer (LAK) cells.

Applications Reported

For research use only, not for diagnostic or therapeutic use. Recombinant human IL-15 is biologically active.

Applications Tested

This recombinant human IL-15 has been tested in bioassays with an ED50 of 0.10 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of approximately 1x107 Units/mg.
