Product Information
Contents: Carrier-Free Recombinant Mouse IL-6 (Interleukin-6)
Catalog Number: 34-8061
Sizes: 100 ug, 500 ug
Formulation: Sterile 70% acetonitrile, 0.1% trifluoroacetic acid with no carriers or preservatives. 0.22 µm filtered.
Storage Conditions: For greatest stability, keep concentration of primary stock at or above 10 µg/ml. For long term storage, aliquot into polypropylene vials (volumes of 20 µl or greater) and store at or below -80°C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Handling Conditions: For best recovery, always quick-spin vial prior to opening. For dilution of current stock, always include carrier protein (1% BSA or 10% FBS) in the buffered saline diluent.
Source: E. coli expressed amino acids Phe 25-Thre 211 of mature mouse IL-6 (accession # MMINTL6).
Molecular Mass: The protein is methionylated at the N-terminal. The DTT reduced and non-reduced protein migrate as 19 kDa polypeptides on SDS-PAGE.
Purity: Greater than 98%, as determined by SDS-PAGE
Endotoxin Level: Less than 0.01 ng/ug cytokine as determined by the LAL assay.
Bioactivity: Measured by mouse B9 cell proliferation assay. The ED50 is 0.01 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of 1.0 x 10E8 Units/mg.

Description
Mouse IL-6 (also known as B Cell Stimulating Factor, BCSF, and BSF-2) is a ~21-28 kDa factor produced by a variety of cell types, including monocytes, fibroblasts and endothelial cells. Upon stimulation, macrophages, T, B, mast, and glial cells, eosinophils, keratinocytes and granulocytes also secrete IL-6. This pleiotrophic cytokine influences the antigen-specific immune response, inflammatory response, and the development of neurons, and is a major mediator of the acute phase reaction.
Applications Reported
For research use only, not for diagnostic or therapeutic use. Recombinant mouse IL-6 is biologically active and can promote proliferation of mouse B cell lines in culture. It is also used as a cytokine standard in mouse IL-6 ELISA.
Applications Tested
This recombinant mouse IL-6 has been tested by sandwich ELISA using the mouse IL-6 antibody pair (MP5-20F3/MP5-32C11) and in bioassays using the mouse cell line B9 (see Current Protocols in Immunology). The ED
50 measured in a B9 proliferation assay is typically less than 0.01 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of greater than 1x10
8 Units/mg.
