Product Information
Contents: Recombinant Human IFNa2 (Interferon-alpha 2, IFN-a2)
Catalog Number: 14-8316
Sizes: 5 ug, 25 ug
Formulation: Sterile liquid; 50 mM sodium acetate, pH 5.0, 100 mM NaCl, with 1.0 % BSA. 0.22 μM filtered.
Storage Conditions: For greatest stability, keep concentration of primary stock at or above 10 µg/ml. For long term storage, aliquot into polypropylene vials (volumes of 20 µl or greater) and store at or below -80°C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Handling Conditions: For best recovery, always quick-spin vial prior to opening. For dilution of current stock, always include carrier protein (1% BSA or 10% FBS) in the buffered saline diluent.
Source: E. coli expressed amino acids Cys24-Glu188 of mature human IFNa2 (accession # NM_000605).
Molecular Mass: The protein has a predicted molecular mass of 22 kDa. The non-reduced protein migrates as a 18 kDa polypeptide on SDS-PAGE. The DTT reduced protein migrates as an 22 kDa polypeptide.
Purity: Greater than 98% as determined by SDS-PAGE
Endotoxin Level: Less than 0.01 ng/ug cytokine as determined by the LAL assay.
Bioactivity: The recombinant human IFN-α2 has been tested for inhibition of the cytopathic effect of EMC virus on A549 cells. The ED50 for this effect is typically 30 pg/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of 3 x 106 U/mg.

Description
IFN-α2 is a type I interferon, previously known as B-cell interferon, leukocyte interferon, lymphoblast interferon, and pH2-stable interferon. IFN-α1 is one of at least 23 different known variants of IFN-α. The individual proteins have molecular masses between 19-26 kDa and consist of proteins with lengths of 156-166 and 172 amino acids. IFN-α forms are produced by monocytes/macrophages, lymphoblastoid cells, fibroblasts, and a number of different cell types following induction by viruses, nucleic acids, glucocorticoid hormones, and low-molecular weight substances (n-butyrate, 5-bromodeoxyuridine). IFN-α2 demonstrates antiviral, antiparasitic, antiproliferative activities.
Applications Reported
For research use only, not for diagnostic or therapeutic use. The recombinant human IFNa2 has been reported useful for bioassay and ELISA.
Applications Tested
The recombinant human IFN-α2 has been tested for inhibition of the cytopathic effect of EMC virus on A549 cells. The ED
50 for this effect is typically 30 pg/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of 3 x 10
6 U/mg.
