Description
The monoclonal antibody 5E5 recognizes human CD98hc protein also called CD98 heavy chain, FRP-1 (fusion regulatory protein-1 ) or 4F2. CD98 is a disulfide-linked complex composed of a heavy chain (a Type II membrane protein) and a light chain of which there are more than six different chains (LAT1, LAT2, y+LAT1, y+LAT2, Asc-1, xCT). CD98 can associate directly or indirectly with β 1 integrins, EpCAM and CD147 (EMMPRIN). The function of CD98 is thought to involve amino acid transport, cell fusion concomitantly with increased plasma membrane expression and integrin mediated adhesion. Expression of CD98 is broad including non-hematopoietic cells. In peripheral blood cells, monocytes expression is high while lymphocytes have intermediate levels and granulocytes express very little.
Applications Reported
For research use only, not for diagnostic or therapeutic use. This 5E5 antibody has been reported for use in flow cytometric analysis, and immunoprecipitation.
Applications Tested
This 5E5 antibody has been tested by flow cytometric analysis of normal human peripheral blood cells. This can be used at less than or equal to 0.5 μg per million cells in a 100 μl total staining volume. It is recommended that the antibody be carefully titrated for optimal performance in the assay of interest.
